New finds – a few of my favourite things….

Do you ever wish you could just relive a whole month again and again? Well that was December for me! Not only did we have our magical trip to Lapland UK (see previous post) and Christmas which was made even more exciting by watching our Beau open his presents, but we also squeezed in an amazing honeymoon to Dubai!

So back to reality now but thought I would share some of my new favourite things, some from Santa, some from the sales and some from experience!

For the babe….

So of course Beau ended up with far too many things for Christmas even though I was convinced I hadn’t bought that much! I will share some of the fun things next time but here are a few of the new additions to his nursery and wardrobe!

For the home….

Monkey wine bottle holder, Graham and Green, Home accessories, quirky interiors

Say hello to our new friend, Mr Monkey! Fulfilling a purpose for my husband and adding a bit of quirky interest to the kitchen counter for me! I don’t know how many times he throws the sentence “style over substance” at me but with this wine bottle holder from Graham and Green, he has nothing to moan about!

Alternative sugar bowl, quirky kitchen accessories, bits and bobs, succulent love, urban garden, house of disasterWhen you add “unusual sugar bowl” to your Christmas list, there’s no telling what Santa (or your sister in law) may find but we were pretty chuffed by this little cutie! My love of succulents makes it even more perfect! Urban garden range by House of Disaster

TK Maxx, interesting shelf, Shelfie, geometric shelf, interior accessories Excuse the unpainted walls but I was so pleased with this geometric find from TK Maxx that I bought it in two different colours. Their website is definitely worth a browse for home bits if you can’t make it into the store as it is often a case of when it’s gone it’s gone in there!

For myself…

Abigail Ahern, design masterclass, interior design

So I had the best surprise Christmas gift from my mum, to spend the day with one of my favourite interior gurus Abigail Ahern at a design masterclass in February. I cannot wait and will definitely be telling you all about it next month. In the meantime check out her website and swoon over her super cool instagram page full of amazing faux plants, daring colour pallets and eclectic accessories like my pelican friend lamp.

Dungarees…

So I don’t often buy myself new clothes anymore, when I do, I tend to wear that item every other day for weeks as if I have nothing else and until I get sick of it! Thought I’d spend my Topshop vouchers and treat myself to a pair of dungarees! They are sooo comfy I can’t believe I’ve waited so long to get a pair. However I do keep questioning if I’m too old for them… any other 30 something women rocking the dungarees?!

For an extra special family holiday….

Atlantis the Palm, Dubai, holiday with toddler, Dubai review, Atlantis review, Dubai for children, luxury family holiday, AtlantisI cannot recommend Dubai enough for a family holiday, especially in mid December. It was quiet, a perfect temperature for Beau (24-28 degrees,) full of things to do for all ages and interests, clean and felt safe. The Atlantis hotel was perfect for us. Lounging by the pool or on the beach and looking out across the city skyline. Walking past sharks and rays on the way to breakfast each morning, amazing restaurants and yummy cocktails from various bars (with happy hours!) There was also free entry to the water park and aquarium. I have not been anywhere else where you can have the best of both types of holiday (beach and city break) all at once. You can even get your snow fix at the mall! Oh and the shopping is great too! We will definitely be saving the pennies to go back!

Style it!

Designing out of your comfort zone!

So people often joke that everything I choose is grey! There is some truth in this as I do love grey in its many shades, it seems to just go with everything. As my old house seemed to be 50 shades of grey with the odd white or cream mixed in I thought I would be a little more daring this time. Maybe it’s part of a midlife crisis I mentioned previously but I am suddenly falling in love with colours and patterns.

As we have more rooms in our new home my husband promised me that I could go a bit design crazy in our spare lounge, so I am doing just that! It is still very much a work in progress as I have to wait for each pay day to buy something new haha, but I’m getting there. I do seem to be moving mess from one room to the next as I sort through boxes and begin to place things in situ (I spend way too much time doing this and must have rearranged pictures and candlesticks a thousand times) but I will share some pictures so far!

The sweeping lamp is Graham & Green and was last years Christmas present from my Mum! I have hunted everywhere for a matching central lamp shade and eventually found a similar one on Achica.

Rockett St George, Graham and Green, Abigail Ahern and Cox & Cox are some of my absolute favourites when it comes to home shopping so there are a mixture of the above around our home. I mentioned previously that I love a bargain so I also get a lot of bits from Homesense and TK Maxx. I love the idea of having something a little bit different so try to hunt for pieces at auctions, car boot sales and reclaim yards.

I had this neon sign made for Matt for Christmas which we then used at our wedding. I’m so pleased we now have somewhere to display it, the pink looks great against the dark grey walls (Farrow & Ball Down Pipe)

We have also decided to be daring in our ensuite. We opted for Cole & Son Palm Jungle wallpaper and a checkerboard floor. It is only us that use it and it’s a small room so the perfect little space for such an out there design. We still need to add mirrors and accessories but it has made such a big difference. I feel as though I am in a boutique hotel each time I step out of the shower and into the jungle!

If you have a sudden urge to add pattern or colours out of your comfort zone, then a small space is the perfect place and it’s surprisingly invigorating to walk out of the tonal shades of the rest of the house and into a splash of wow!
