And then he was two! Having a mummy moment!

So my little baby Beau is now two!!! Where has the time gone. I have had the best two years of my life and thank him each night that I put him to bed for being mine!

Toddler, turning two, 2nd birthday,

I’m pretty rubbish at printing out photos even though I have thousands of pictures and videos on my phone. I have also not really kept my record book as up to date as I probably should have (I find myself flicking back through my phone and backdating things!) So I decided that each year I will make a little video on Flipagram of his past year and write him a letter of all of his achievements, experiences, likes and dislikes and the things he does that makes us laugh! Tears are shed as I watch / read them back but so lovely to see how he has changed and relive some memories in a five minute video.

I feel so emotional about how fast he’s growing but equally excited about what each new day brings as he turns from baby to toddler to little boy.

Did anyone else get a huge lump in their throat as they hung up their baby changing bag and transferred its contents to a handbag? Or put the gro bag away and gave their babe a quilt and pillow for the first time? Just me being an over sensitive first time mummy?! Well these are two of my recent mummy milestones and it’s making me really think about how quickly the time goes and just how amazing the rate of a child’s development really is! At no other point in your life do you achieve so much on a monthly basis as you do in those early years. Although every year of a child’s life is important, the first five years is the period when a child’s brain develops more and faster than at any other time in their life.

Growing up, baby to toddler

Beau is just changing so much every week even. As I watch him climb a much thought out, man made tower of precariously balanced objects and dive into his ball pit like a stunt man, I think back to this time last year. He was only just crawling then and yet now I’m sure he runs faster than me, he definitely has more energy! He tells me his wants and needs rather than me guessing, eats with a big boy fork, has mini conversations and constantly makes me wonder where my baby has gone (while feeling super proud of his daily achievements.)

And now the change of bag and bedtime arrangement has just tipped me over the edge haha! Of course I thoroughly enjoyed spending hours and hours internet shopping for the perfect bedding but the reality of putting it on the bed and folding away the baby gro bag really tugged at my heart strings! Not sure why I actually bothered with the quilt though as Beau sleeps upside down, side to side, on top of the quilt or kicks it off anyway and the pillow forms more of a hat! (Is this normal?) I also now panick (something I do way to much) that he will be cold, or pull it over his face, or I won’t be able to see if his chest is moving up and down as I spend my awake hours watching his monitor! Get a grip I hear my husband say!

Changing bag to handbag – I never knew I had so much treasure lurking at the bottom of my changing bag and how hard it was to fit it all in a regular handbag! Boxes of raisins, toys, broken crayons, spare clothes, every type of cream, gloves, hats, sunglasses and packing for every eventuality has had to be seriously cut down!

I opted for this large mulberry bag to carry my life around with me and keep a canvas bag of all Beaus bits inside so that I can separate his and mine when needed which works perfectly.Mulberry

There are also some great cheaper versions of this oversized bag, like this one from Topshop

So with turning two comes a handful of more Mummy questions…

When shall I take the sides off his cot?

When shall we give up the dummy?

When shall we start potty training and how?!

Should I send him to nursery yet or just enjoy our free, no time restraint days at home together for a little longer?!

And when will he ever sleep past 5am?!

A Peppa Pig tea party celebration with his little friends marked his second birthday. Some fake grass, rubber ducks, and muddy puddles, homemade bunting and a cake so big we are still eating….. Happy birthday beautiful boy, thank you for another amazing year.

Love it!

I hold my hands up, I’m a baby shopaholic! (Buying stuff for them not actually buying babies haha.) This week we took a trip to the big smoke to visit a few of my favourite places.

Molly-Meg Islington, children's shop
http://www.mollymeg.com the most beautiful little children’s shop!

I have followed a number of independent stores on instagram since I was pregnant and always wanted to visit http://www.mollymeg.com It didn’t disappoint, it’s filled to the brim with beautiful things. I mean floor to ceiling children’s treasures. If you are in Islington you should definitely check them out or give them a follow http://instagram.com/molly_meg_
Santa will be filling Beau’s stocking from here I’m sure!

Fortnum & Mason children's department, baby shopping
Fortnum & Mason children’s department, love it!

My favourite children’s departments have got to be at Liberty and Fortnum & Mason. They host some great names in children’s fashion, toys and interiors and you can be sure to find a little piece of luxury or something you’ve not seen anywhere before. They are both also set out beautifully. Beau had a great time running around F&M filling his Olli Ella luggy shopping basket and flirting with the shop assistants! He also loved the ice cream parlour there too!

I love to get him the odd special piece and I definitely spend more on his things than my own but do mix it up with lots of pieces from Zara and H&M. I also take note of the brands I love and look out for them on eBay to see if I can grab a bargain!

So what do I love more than buying the clothes and accessories? Organising them, folding them and taking pictures of them. Haha little things give me great pleasure! When I was pregnant I would spend most evenings sitting in his nursery just staring at everything and I haven’t really changed. As he grows out of each age group of clothes, I box them away and rearrange the new bits as if I’m playing shops and I LOVE IT!

So I am lucky enough to be mummy to beautiful Beau and it really is the best job in the whole world! However, I have never questioned myself so much about if I’m doing the right thing, is he too hot or cold, am I feeding him enough or too much. When I was pregnant I read every book, blog and forum I could but it all just seemed to go out of the window when he arrived! I quickly realised that every child is different, there is no right or wrong way and as long as my baby and I were happy, safe and well that’s all that mattered! Someone gave me the best piece of advice, listen to everything, pick your favourite bits and do it your way. Both he and I are learning together. Each day he teaches me something new and he is my greatest adventure!
So not only does being a mummy mean I get to experience all of the pleasures and rewards of watching a little piece of us grow and change each day but it also opens up a whole new world of shopping! Nursery interiors, playroom ideas and baby clothes now fill my internet search history and I have become quite the expert at hunting for something a bit different. While the everyday high street shops have some great bits and are becoming much more varied with their range, I do find myself getting annoyed with how hard it is to find boys clothing that is not bright blue, with pictures of cars or cartoon characters on.
When it comes to toys I vowed never to have colourful plastic everywhere, however that’s what he seems to be drawn to (although he’s more than happy to empty the kitchen cupboards and spend hours putting OXO cubes in and out of the box!) So I spend all of my pennies on lovely wooden toys and bits for display and put all the fun plastic stuff in carefully coordinating storage baskets!
I absolutely ❤️ instagram for getting ideas and finding independent shops or makes of bits and pieces that I’ve not seen before. I follow some great people so have a click through and see if anyone tickles your taste buds! However I do find that lots of the brands I love seem to be from across the pond, (I love Scandi style toys and interiors and Australia seem to have some super cool baby clothes) meaning they are difficult to get hold of or just takes a little more hunting down!
So if anyone has any favourite places for something different then I would love to hear!
